Privacy Policy
(Note that where "he" is used for simplicity, it always means "he or she." RIDEF stands for "Réseau international d'échange de foyers")
RIDEF neither sends spam nor sells email addresses.
Information collected and stored on our server.
We leave it entirely to our members to decide what kind of personal information they would like to display in their listing. In particular, we offer the option to either include or not include address and phone numbers. As far as email addresses are concerned, we are fully aware of the spam problem and hence do only publish them if a member requests it explicitly.
Members and non-members alike can contact a member by means of a web form. From the sender address given the system recognizes a member and sends his form directly. Non-members have to authenticate their own email address beforehand. The email address of the receiver of the form is never disclosed in the process. He is also automatically informed if the sender is a member or not and in the former case finds a link to the senders own listing. The receiver is encouraged to reply, but can do so at his own discretion.
Apart from the members email addresses all information is freely accessible. There are no permanent passwords to remember. Where required (for email address verification e.g.) temporary code numbers are assigned.
Personal identifying information (i.e. home address, telephone and fax numbers) is never shared to members of the community from the RIDEF website or by the staff. It is at the sole discretion of the member when and to whom to provide personal info.
For statistical purposes we use third party services to monitor access to our web pages and in the process collect information (e.g. Ip address) of visitors. This information is only used internally.
Except as explained above, or where you are expressly informed otherwise, we do not sell, rent, share, trade or give away any of your personal information, unless required by law. However, RIDEF may share profile information and aggregate usage information in a non-personally identifiable manner with advertisers and other third parties such as journalists in order to present to members and other users of the RIDEF website more targeted advertising, products and services. In such situations we will never disclose information that would personally identify you.
Links
The RIDEF website contains links to other websites. Please be aware that RIDEF is not responsible for the privacy practices of any other website. We expect users to notice when they move away from our website since all browsers list the current web address. We cannot be held responsible for privacy issues of other websites, even if it has been reached via a link on our site.
Use of Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that is stored on a user's computer for record-keeping purposes. At present we only use "session ID cookies" for members who create personal shortlists. No private information is collected in this way.
Changes in Our Privacy Policy
If we change our privacy policy, we will post those changes on our web site so members and other users of the RIDEF website are always aware of what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it. If we are going to use members' or other users' personally identifiable information in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection, we will notify those members and users via email or by placing a prominent notice on our website.

Our site is hosted by a professional third party supplier. If you have any questions about the security at our website, please contact us.
Email Choice / Opt-out
Members who no longer wish to receive our newsletter or alerting messages should follow published procedures to cancel these services. We follow strict opt-out procedures.
World wide data protection and consumer rights laws.
Our Agency and server are located in Switzerland. Swiss data protection and consumer rights laws are similar and often stricter than those of the European Union. However, you should be aware that the information you supply is treated according to Swiss laws and if you submit personal information you do thereby consent to the general use of such information as provided in this privacy policy and to the transfer of that information to and/or storage of the information in Switzerland.
